I'm a junior who loves to read, write, and binge watching Games of Thrones. I also love to hang out with my friends and family. I also work at Burger King in Radcliff.

Each year at any school they have home games that start off the beginning of the team’s season. And at Larue we celebrate a week of it. We have different days to where people at Larue High School can dress up and be apart of the pep rally at the end-of-the-week game on Friday. Homecoming is a huge deal at Larue High. There is friendly competition between grade levels, teams head-to-head, team bonding, and so much more, but the main things there is banner, dress up days, and the pep rally. At the end of every homecoming week there is a winner announced at the game on Friday at half-time. It is a hectic week for Larue, but what do you expect? We gotta keep ourselves entertained somehow.

Banner is one of few things we get to get do during homecoming week. We have to make a banner that represents the theme that the grade level chose. Like last homecoming, which was for football, juniors chose ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ from Toy Story. We had Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and some of the main characters on the banner. The banner has to be 1 sheet by 20 feet. The sheet itself is about 2 feet long. The banner will be displayed at the end of the week on Thursday, so that way on Friday they can be judged and the winner would be announced at the game that will be held on Friday night against green county.

Also during homecoming week we have dress up days. At the last homecoming Monday was character day, Tuesday was college day, Wednesday was class color day, Thursday was dress for success day, and Friday was spirit day. This year Monday will be Mathletes vs. Athletes, Tuesday will be Tacky Tourists day, Wednesday will be Merica Day, Thursday will be Throwback Thursday, and Friday will be Spirit Day, as it is every homecoming year. The dress up days are a way for kids, and even teachers to express themselves and explore more of their imagination. It’s also one of the competitions that students try to win for the spirit stick.

Pep-rally is held at the end of the week on Friday during 5th and 6th period. During pep-rally we do different games, such as tug-o-war, over under, relay race, etc. And at the end of the pep-rally every grade level has to sing the school fight song. During the pep-rally we have an ongoing war between juniors and seniors. Each homecoming we get competitive with each grade level. It is fun competition. Some people don’t see the competition, others do, even the teachers see the rivalry, just to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand.

‘’What rivalry?’’ Jacob Rutledge, class of 2018, wondered.

‘’Its tradition,’’ Liz Crewz, class of 2019, stated.

‘’Its healthy competition to pull students together,’’ Mrs. Garris, senior teacher, explained.

Basketball homecoming, one of the most extraordinary times of the year. With the dress up days, to the banner making process, to the pep-rally, it’s a pretty intense week. Basketball homecoming is one of the few most exciting events in the entire school year. It has competition, dress up games, and so much more. It gets more intense every year. Some students don’t have much spirit for it, some have too much spirit, and some are in the middle. The teachers are like that as well. Some teachers, like Mrs. Cecil, ‘’love the spirit of homecoming.’’ It has always been like this for as anyone has known. It even has teachers, who have been here for more than 15 years, don’t even know where homecoming competition came from. This is one of the most extraordinary events in the entire school, at least in my opinion.
