Hodgenville, the town of long green rolling hills, blue skies, and beautiful people. But what’s this? The side of the road is littered with various items such as, plastic bottles, pizza boxes, and the occasional McDonalds paper bag. All of these items are recyclable, but no one recycles. Something has to be done.

When people throw away trash, they never think about where the trash will end up.  This is why we need recycling. In our community, we have multiple locations to recycle, but no one takes the time to do so. It’s either too far, they don’t know about it, or they simply just do not care. Jill Gray says from the article, Reduce Reuse recycle, repeat, By Vanessa Hurst,I have seen substantial decrease in county landfill tonnage. When I started here there were 50 tons being processed yearly at Renaissance Recycling; now we process 500 tons.” I don’t know about you, but that’s a lot of materials recycled.

Not all things can be recycled. Household items such as napkins, paper towels, wrapping paper, and plastics cannot be recycled. These items will pile up in landfills and never be renewed making the world dirtier and more pollutant.  items that can be recycled are paper, books, pizza boxes, metal, glass, and certain plastics as said from the website, “The Most Complete List of What Can and Cannot Be Recycled On Campus!”.

Buffalo.edu. N.p., 2016. Web. 8 Sept. 2016.  Make sure to look out for these items in your household. Jacob Davis, of Hodgenville KY, has this to say, “Very few people recycle, it’s bad because earth is beautiful.” Recycling will benefit the community greatly and it will benefit you by giving you a good exercise.

So you may ask, “Where do I recycle at?” There are multiple recycling centers in our community. There’s; ecoATM, Edwards recycling, and D&D recycling. In the sidebar, there are many places very close to Hodgenville ready for your recyclable items. Use them and benefit your community by recycling. Recycling is not that clean, it’s understandable that you may not want to have like 3 trash cans for all the trash you collect. But you may ask, “How does this benefit me?” Well by recycling you can actually benefit financially. That’s right, turning in plastic or glass bottles can get you up to a dime a bottle and cans up to a nickel! May not sound like a lot but you’ll get some of your money back for every twelve pack of cans or 24 pack of bottles. That’s like three dollars right there.

Your community needs you now! Take a stand against pollution and work for a healthy more vibrant world. Make LaRue beautiful again and help out in the struggle.
