Heart shaped cupcakes for friends and family alike

With Valentine’s Day approaching quickly, many fumble over what is a good thing to get anyone and everyone close to their hearts. An easy gift is a baked good or candy, but why not put a creative spin on things? An original, and cute, idea is heart shaped cupcakes that can work with any group for gifts. In a few steps, you can create a lovely baked good that everyone will love and enjoy. After all, who doesn’t love a good, sweet treat on Valentine’s Day?

Step 1: Gather all the ingredients you will need for baking and decoration.

  • Cake mix(es) (Any flavoring or color)
  • Icing/Frosting (store bought or homemade)
  • Cupcake pan(s)
  • Cupcake liners
  • Marbles (or foil can be rolled into balls as replacement)
  • Sprinkles or other decorations(Optional)

Step 2: After you have made the mix or mixes, place cupcake liners within the pan(s). After you have placed them all fill the liners up to 1/2 full. Do not overfill! It could affect the look of your cupcakes.

Step 3: Place a marble in between the liner and the pan. This creates an indention that will create the heart shape as the batter cooks.

Step 4: When the cupcakes have finished baking, leave them in the pan as they cool. Do not touch the pan until the cupcakes have cooled to room temperature. Don’t remove the marbles as they are very hot. When they are cooled, or you are ready to handle the hot marbles, you can remove the cupcakes and marbles from the pan.

Step 5: The decoration begins after you have let everything cool. The frosting (or icing) adds to the effect of the heart shape. You want to draw attention to the two arches formed by the heart shape created by the marble. After you have iced the whole cupcake, if you wish, you can add sprinkles or other edible decorations on the top of the cupcakes. Another good added decoration is colored icing which will serve to make your cupcakes pop.

After you finish all of these steps, you would have created a batch of cute, heart shaped, cupcakes. You can arrange them on a serving tray or pack them up to hand out. You could even make it a group activity! Gather friends or family and bake together. What better way to show love than to bake heart cupcakes? Share the love and sweet treats to help improve everyone’s day. In fact, Heather Hack, mother of four, states “Baking heart shaped cupcakes is a tradition in our family, the kids always love eating and baking them on Valentine’s Day.”
