We take away many things from high school after graduation. Aside from a worthwhile education, the students of LaRue County High School graduate with real world skills, lifelong friendships, and especially, memories that we will keep with us for decades to come. As bitter sweet as is can be for seniors to look back on their brief time here, our time together is coming to an end.

When seniors were asked what their favorite memories were over the course of high school, many students first memory that came to mind took place outside of school itself. Conner McCourt’s initial memory that came to mind was, “When we were caught outside a golf course in the middle of the night and the cops came.” And when asked her favorite memory, Hannah Jolly said, “My favorite memory has been all the things Cameron French has said in Pizza Hut, like ‘I’ve always underappreciated the hairnet’ and ‘I don’t like mushrooms, but I appreciate them.’”

When asked what Cameron French thought her favorite memory was, she said “it’s about to be graduating.” This is a widely held sentiment among seniors at this point, with others feeling stronger about the idea of leaving, such as Miranda Hickman, who, when asked about her favorite memory, bluntly stated, “I don’t have one I hate High School.”

Many students’ fondest memories have just taken place recently. Elizabeth Ross said her favorite memory had happened recently, which would be, “The cult-like grape vine we made in English.” For Jesse Gehr, he said his favorite memory “would probably be going to the State Academic Team competition for the second time, but I don’t know, New York runs a close second.” Other students look back and appreciate the times we’ve had together, like Amber Armstrong, whose favorite memory has been “watching all of my classmate’s senior projects.”

Regardless of whether or not you look back at high school through rose tinted glasses or with sheer spite, high school inevitably affects us for the rest of our lives. Over these four years, we have learned how to make it in the real world. These are the days where we find ourselves, and we can look back at these times for years to come.
