The stage is edging closer to the class of 2017 at LaRue County High School. They’re busy applying for colleges and jobs to begin their lives. But when their high school reunion comes around, what will they be remembered for? What was their senior legacy? What even is that? It’s time to dive into the depths of what it is, how to leave one, and what advantages it can bring to seniors.

A senior legacy is something that a senior leaves behind that they are remembered for. “I guess it would be making a big impression on your school; being a good Samaritan and making good grades,” says Jennifer Butler, an eighteen-year-old senior at LaRue County High School. Leaving something memorable behind after a student has left would be considered a legacy. When someone sees a student outside of school, the first thought said individual will remember is something that was done back in high school.

Some people leave such by breaking or even creating a school record and doing beneficial work for the community. “Well, they just do it by doing something great that teachers will remember,” states Savannah Herron, a senior of the class of 2017. Some students have left a legacy by handing out gifts, having the most school spirit and reading the most books in the library.

This memorable moment can also affect your reputation. Halle Arnold, a senior in high school, commented, “It can allow you to make advancements to what future decisions you will make.” While senior legacies are supposed to be about something good, some are not so good. A poor decision can change one’s future by eliminating certain opportunities. For example, doing drugs or leaving a trail of violence can affect the future of an individual.

A senior legacy is something worth remembering. For example: partaking in any school activities, sharing family recipes, making a photo album, and many other ideas. It’s something that everyone is going to recall when they see a certain person. So as the class of 2017 walks across the stage, what piece of themselves will they leave behind?
