LaRue Co High School Student

“Mom, I told you that I saw him.”

“Don’t.” she said coldly. “I don’t want to hear the lies again!”

“Because you know they’re true.”

“No I don’t because you didn’t see anything!”

“I saw Robert stab the neighbor’s dog with a screw driver! I saw him drown my cat!” Sam practically shouted to get over his mother’s voice trying to stop him. “And I found piece of Dad’s brake line in his closet!”

“That doesn’t prove… prove…” She wheezed.

“Can I get you some water Ms. Sandy?” Asked Lucy, the maid, who had been standing quietly.

Sandy could just nod. Lucy disappeared for a moment then came back with an empty glass. “No water,” she reported.

“I’ll check the well,” Sam said looking for an excuse to get out for a minute.

A few minutes later the lights flickered out.

“Sam! Is that you?!” Sandy called.

“The water works now.” Lucy said in the pitch blackness. “Do you need anything else?”

“No, Sam will help when he comes back. You go back on home and I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Okay, goodnight.”

A minute later a car started up and started away. Sandy drank thirstily from the glass. It was thick and bitter. She felt a hair in her mouth and pulled it out. It was two inches, just like how Sam likes his hair cut. Then a loud screech of tires came from the road, then a loud scream followed by the sound of smashing metal.

“Lucy?! Sam?!” Sandy called in terror. Her heart beat hard and her breath was fast. Everything grew dark and spun in blurred circles.

When she awoke, she heard music. It was Robert’s favorite song. She began to call for Sam to turn it off, when she felt wrestling from under the bed. She laid still and wide eyed. Finally the motion stopped. “Will you play with me mommy?” asked a young voice.
