Opening the door to his workplace, Jake couldn’t help but smile. He loved coming into work. As he started towards his office, he waved and smiled to his co-workers. Barry was busy sorting papers, and looked at Jake with a smile. Though Stella was tapping away on her keyboard, she was able to smile back at Jake. Cara and Arin were gossiping by the water cooler, and they smiled at Jake, too. How wonderful it is to work in such a happy place, he thought.
As he neared his office however, Jake noticed something strange. It was Mary. Her face looked droopy and depressed. Walking over to her, he asked, “Mary, whatever is the matter? You look quite sad.”
Mary didn’t answer, and continued to look glum. Jake was starting to feel down too. Mary, how could you make me feel this way? Jake’s smile was fading, but luckily, he had just the solution for her. He opened his briefcase, looked at Mary, and smiled. He removed Mary’s dreadful face, and replaced it with a new, happy face.
“There, isn’t that better?”
