I am 16 years old. I work at Subway. I love animals and I want to do something great with my life, I just don't know what yet.

Many people doubt the need of foreign languages LCHS gives the opportunity to for grades freshmen to senior to take electives to have an understanding of the Spanish language and culture.

With Spanish as a second language or even just having an idea of the language offers more job opportunities in all industries. Ernesto Garcia , LCHS Spanish teacher stated from personal experience and as a speaker of 3 languages including Spanish as his 1st language with French and English ” With Spanish as my first language, that offered me more and better job opportunities in my career.” Another LCHS Spanish informed of the many careers in which foreign language and/or Spanish language would be very useful, “The past Kentucky winning Jockeys.  What is their primary language?  They Speak Spanish. How about the people who take care of the horses. What do you call them? A farrier: the person who puts horseshoes on the horse and trims the hooves. The exercise rider: the person who rides the horse during the morning workouts. The groom: the person who cares for a horse in a stable who cleans and brushes a horse. I am willing to bet, that they also speak Spanish.”

Also learning a foreign language helps travel the world and just learn new cultures. Garcia,” I wouldn’t have been able to become an International teacher If first I hadn’t studied languages; I also could travel the world and improve my global competency.” And Silva stated,” If you are a baseball player.  Look up all of the All Star baseball players. I guarantee the majority of the All-Star players speak Spanish, because of where they are from.”

Learning a foreign language is a big use in the business industry. Aleea Routt, A Subway worker, and a student of Silva’s states,” When we get Spanish customers it really helps understand them and for them to understand me” when asking Mr. Garcia about how he felt about foreign language in the business industry he said,” Definitely, I will encourage anyone, regardless of age or grade level, to learn languages; because nowadays we are living in a Global World where talking more than one language is being a challenge. Young generations around the world are getting technology and languages skills so that they will be competitive in the near future; even local companies are looking for more specialized workforce ready to communicate and interact with the world that will make them more competitive with other business in their area.”

In conclusion, I can conclude it is in best interest that picking up a second language is beneficial to you and others on the planet.
