My name is Makayla Miller. I am a 18 year old, senior at LCHS. I like to hunt, fish, and ride a four wheeler.

During the month of high tension and fierce competition has arrived. Football Homecoming is one of the best times of the year because students bring out the spirit that they don’t show the other days of the year. During Football Homecoming week 2017, there was of course dress up week, and games and that is when the fun and competitions began. “It was extremely hot in the gym,” sophomore Emily Pearman stated.

Honestly, the dress up week is the best time of the year because you can actually express your inner self and you can be fun and creative. The dress up days included Character day, Class Color day, Dress for Success day, College day, and last but not least, Spirit day. Ashley Key, said something that typical people would say, “Character Day was my all-time favorite because I got to match my best friend and it gave us the opportunity to go all out and explore with different characters from movies.” Personally, my favorite dress up day was spirit day because students expressed their inner spirit for school and it shows student representing LaRue County.

The most asked question is ‘Who deserves the spirit stick?’, “The senior class deserved the spirit stick because they are most athletic, have the most spirit, and they definitely worked the hardest,” said by Emily Pearman. Some students disagree because they state that the reason why class of ’18 won is because they are seniors and seniors always win. However, that is not always the reason because class of ’18 as juniors won last year’s spirit stick. “What are you talking about? Seniors always deserves the spirit stick because it is their last year of High School,” Cam Lasley stated in his interview on Thursday, January 9, 2018.  The spirit stick is a big deal when it comes to Homecoming Pep rallys because the seniors and juniors compete for it. However, some state that there is no reason to have a “fit” over the spirit stick because it is no big deal.

A common question that is normally asked is “What is a homecoming court?” Well a homecoming court consists of 10 girls: 4 senior, 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshman. They are nominated by the students here at Larue County High School. Then on game night one of the lucky girls is picked as LaRue County Homecoming queen. Alexia Trumbo was crowned 2017 Football Homecoming Queen on September 23, 2017. “Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to win homecoming queen because there was so many pretty girls that I was going against and they deserved it as well.” 2017 homecoming queen Alexia Trumbo said in her interview on January 23, 2018.  In my opinion, all the girls that are nominated in homecoming court should be crowned because they all deserved to be recognized and honored for all the work they have put into it all.

Overall, 2017 Football homecoming was a blast and I can’t wait to see what 2018 Basketball homecoming brings. Pearman stated “Class of 2020 needs to step up their game and get more spirit and energy when it comes to the pep rallies because it is fun” As a senior this year, I had fun at pep rallies all four years of high school because I knew that once I am out, there is no going back. I hope under classman can have as much fun as we senior’s did. Have fun and explore. Be creative and go out of your way each and every day to make someone’s day.
