There are many opportunities at Larue County High School. Most students do not understand the different classes this school offers to us. Students coming into the ninth grade, or are returning high school students, do not understand the opportunities they have. Some students might not even know what that class is about so they just won’t choose to pick it until it’s their senior year and they realize that class would have been an interesting class to take; it was better than they were told or expecting it to be. Larue County high school has classes such as: Art, Creative Writing, etc. the opportunities here are limited, yes, but there are so many other classes you might enjoy, want to begin to study more of in the future years.
One of the first opportunities Larue County High School offers is art classes. There are three different classes, each class will depend on whether you pass the one before. There are: Art one, which is learning the basics of art. Learning how to shade and lightly sketch. Art two is still learning some basics of art, but are more free to expressing in a creative manner. Incorporating thoughts and feelings into your artwork more as you become more independent. And finally, Advanced Art, a combined class of Art three and four students. In Art three, students are more free as to what medium they want to work on at the time. The assignments required to do in a given amount of time, given by the teacher. While in Art four, the student would enjoy doing for the week is what they will be doing; whether it’s pottery, painting, sketchbook assignments, or what they enjoy to do the most. But the requirements to do so are having the previous three years of art. Art is a great class to want to be a part of because it helps express feelings, thoughts, and can be a great stress reliever. Larue County Student, Savannah Herron, states, “It has helped to change my perspective on the world.” Taking an art class doesn’t exclude students who believe they can’t draw, it’s for students who: want to learn to draw, want to become a better artist for their future career, and want to start a new hobby that they may or may not enjoy, but learned new things trying. That’s what an art class is about.
Another opportunity Larue County High School offers is Creative Writing. Creative writing is not just writing what comes out and turning it in. Creative Writing is a hard class for many individuals if they do not enjoy to write, rewrite, edit, take in others suggestions to making their work better. In creative writing there are many tasks that are required, whether it’s: writing a Feature article, creating a poem, turning abstract words-such as, happy, sad, red, etc.- into concrete words-such as, rainbows, clouds, rose, etc.- to convey a deeper meaning, rather than not showing imagery or readers visualization. Without readers’ visualization, the reader losing a sense of meaning, or purpose you are trying to convey into your writing piece. There will be some times when you are allowed to do writings that you want. There will be occasional times where one of the topics is a choice piece. But even though you have a choice piece doesn’t mean skipping the writing process. Every pieced done will need to go through the Revise, edit and re edit after every draft is finished.
Larue County has several other opportunities such as working in the green house, Spanish speaking courses, Agricultural classes; Larue county wants to provide opportunities to many of their student. Some courses are not available here, but the ones that are could be a substitute, could be a separate passion or something you wanted to consider taking but wasn’t sure whether it was the right class to take for that passion, or it could be the complete opposite of what you want to do but just wanted to test the water and see what kind of experiences they will give to you. This school has many opportunities they want you to learn and discover, whether it will be something to think about in the future or just an experience.
